39th Annual “Champions of Courage” Essay Competition Winners Announced

Embrace G., a sixth grader at St. Joseph School-Fullerton, has been named a finalist in the 39th Annual Champions of Courage Black History Month Essay Competition.

The competition invites students in grades 6–12 to write an essay honoring an individual who has embodied the lessons and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through their actions and leadership.

Nominated by her ELA teacher, Mrs. Cowand, Embrace chose to write about Maya Angelou. She is now in the running for the competition’s Grand Prize. A Champions of Courage broadcast special will air in late February on Fox45, during which three Grand Prize essayists will be announced.

Last year, Ben L., SJS Class of 2025 and current freshman at Calvert Hall, was named the Grand Prize Winner. We are thrilled to have a winner for the second consecutive year.

As a finalist, Embrace will receive a behind-the-scenes station tour when she records her segment at the Fox45 news station, along with a $100 award.
Congratulations, Embrace, on this outstanding achievement!
